{"id":968,"date":"2026-07-22T15:08:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T15:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.suffolkarchivesfoundation.org.uk\/?page_id=968"},"modified":"2026-07-22T15:08:05","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T15:08:05","slug":"kate-chantry-memorial-fund","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.suffolkarchivesfoundation.org.uk\/?page_id=968","title":{"rendered":"Kate Chantry Memorial Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Suffolk Archives has launched a memorial fund in honour of Kate Chantry who died in 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.suffolkarchivesfoundation.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Kate-at-the-royal-opening-14-9-21.jpg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"Kate Chantry\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>Kate Chantry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kate was instrumental in the development of Suffolk Archives over the last 30 years. She started as Assistant Archivist at the Ipswich branch in 1989 before moving across to work in both Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft. In 1996 Kate took on the role of Area Archivist for Lowestoft alongside Gwyn Thomas in Bury and David Jones in Ipswich. This was followed by a move to Service Archivist in 1998 and then Record Office Manager in 2007. A significant change came in 2019 when she took on the role of Strategic Manager, overseeing the final preparations for the opening of The Hold in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>As one former colleague said \u201cThe fact that The Hold is such an amazing building owes so much to her. She could not have put more into the project and managed to keep it going in the most testing of times when Covid hit. Her dedication and tenacity were truly amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kate\u2019s contribution to the archive profession covered more than just Suffolk. A former chair of the East of England Regional Archive Council commented \u201cKate will be sorely missed; she made a tremendous contribution to the cause of archives in the East of England over many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The service would like to commemorate the achievements of Kate by installing a wooden memorial bench in the garden area at The Hold, along with some additional planting.
